All HDSB students have been registered at their home school for Sept. 2021, including those currently learning virtually. If your child will be at- tending school in person, no further action is re- quired. However, for those children wanting the re- mote learning model, a Re- mote Learning Registra- tion Form must be filled out. Forms were emailed to all families last week, with the deadline for forms to be submitted Tuesday, June 1. The elementary remote learning model is as fol- lows: • Students will learn ful- ly online. • School start and end times will be confirmed be- fore the start of school in September. • Remote learning will be taught by staff who may not be from your home school. • Students from multiple schools may be assigned to the same remote learning class. • For students in French Immersion, the board will make every effort to pro- vide instruction in French. • Students will be re- quired to participate on- line using technology in re- al-time during the school day (180 minutes for Kin- dergarten; 225 minutes for Grades 1 - 8). The remain- der of the day will be inde- pendent learning. For those secondary school students attending in-person, students will be in school for the full day, five days a week and will be on a Quadmester schedule with one course in the morning and one in the af- ternoon. When possible, and in accordance with Ministry of Education guidelines, in- person students will be able to participate in school clubs and teams. For secondary school students participating in remote learning, the fol- lowing are their guide- lines: • Students will learn on- line only. • School start and end times will be confirmed be- fore the start of school in September. • Schools will follow a Quadmester schedule (lim- it of two courses at a time), with one course in the morning and one in the af- ternoon (both online). • Remote learning will be taught by staff who may not be from the home sec- ondary school. • Students from multiple schools may be assigned to the same class. • French Immersion courses will be offered where enrolment numbers permit. • Students learning re- motely will not be permit- ted to participate at their home school in-person school clubs or teams. • Students will be re- quired to participate on- line using technology in re- al-time during the school day (225 minutes). The re- mainder of the day will be independent learning. • The following special- ized optional programs will not be offered virtual- ly: Accelerated Learning Program, International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, LEAP and I- STEM. • Students will be re- quired to reselect courses for the 2021-2022 school year to replace your home school timetable. Please note that course offerings will include compulsory courses and offer limited electives. These guidelines do not apply to Gary Allan High School students whose stu- dents will receive messag- ing directly from the Gary Allan Learning Centre main office. NEWS BOTH LEARNING OPTIONS AVAILABLE AGAIN THIS FALL Both remote and in-person learning will be offered by HDSB in September. Graham Paine/Metroland
