Children’s chorus being formed in Georgetown By Wendy Long The sound of music is in the air for many children in Halton Hills and surrounding areas. A choir is being formed for chil- dren ages 7 to 12, called the Georgetown Children’s Chorus. Over 40 children have already reg- istered and are excited about the new group. “There is a tremendous need for it,” said musician Dale Wood, who will be the chorus’ conductor. “Music is a major part of every- one’s life. You can do so much by educating children.” The children’s chorus is long overdue, Wood said. He said that many small towns have lots of tal- ent and Georgetown’ is no excep- tion. Wood himself is a private music teacher and seasoned choral direc- tor. He is presently director of the Georgetown Choral Society (and has been since 1975), director of music at Grace United Church in Brampton, and director of the Achill Choral Society. He is also a composer, professional musician United Way campaign cabinet announced Steve Williamson, president of the United Way of Halton Hills, has announced the organization’s 1992 Campaign Cabinet is in place and vigorously planning this year’s fund-raising drive. Here’s a look at the 1992 United Way cabinet: General Chairman of the 1992 United Way campaign is Bob Malcolmson whose past volunteer activities include the Kinsmen, Halton Cancer Unit, Cystic Fibrosis, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Malcolmson is current- ly the President of the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce. Past General Chair, Ted Fry has been actively involved in the United Way for many years and this experience and knowledge make him a valuable member of the team. As the United Way’s Industrial/Government Chair, Connell Smith’s role will be to focus on the business and public service sectors in Halton Hills. Smith is also the new Chairman of the Board, Georgetown & District Memorial Hospital. A familiar name to many Halton Hills residents is Ted Gorth, this year’s Commercial Chair (retail sector). Among Gorth’s many vol- unteer affiliations if his involve- ment with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Red Cross. Financial Chair is John Hucalak. Kelly Herbert, is the Residential Chair in Georgetown. At present, there is no Residential Chair for Acton. Jim Lindsay holds the posi- tion of Agency Relations and Allocations Chair, and Lorraine Willson, as Community Awareness Chair, will handle community rela- tions. In addition, the United Way of Halton Hills cabinet includes Carol Kent, a loaned representative from the Halton Separate School Board.
