Sporting their new name, the Georgetown Raiders, as they claimed a 78 2 victory against Flamborough in their season open- ome 1992-93 Major Novice squad is coached by Paul La Rose who led most of these same players to a stun- ning Tri-County championship last season as minor novices. LaRose is looking forward to another success- ful season and as the Raiders notched this all-important first win, they can now set their sights in that direction. Last Monday’s contest saw the AA Raiders not only make it to the scoreboard first, but also manage to hold Flamborough scoreless until midway into the final riod. peri Winger Kyle Hotham scored Georgetown’s first goal with 1:36 remaining in the opening period, assisted by - centre Ronny Larocque and newcomer Brandon Valente. Midway into the second, center Graham McCulloch shot in an unassisted goal. Early in the third period, winger Mark Fantegrossi took passes from Corey Forbes and Kevin Binsell and scored the third and game winning goal. Three minutes later, Flamborough finally got past goaltender Ryan LaRose, Kyle Hotham, however, responded quickly with his second goal of the game from Larocque. With only 28 seconds left, Flamborough scored again to make it a 4-2 final for Georgetown. Halton Hills This Week, Saturday, October, 10,1992 — Page 17 Black Machines have disappointing loss By Wendi Goodhew Sunday was the Raider Black Machines’ second game of the year. Coaches Carson Minich, Rick Rideout and Doc Richardson had their Black Machines revved for action at the Alcott. With Daryl Asbee in the sick bay with a broken hand and Ryan Smith absent the pit crew called up Dan Cabral and Shawn Hardcastle to fill the bench. Shawn showed lots of hustle and made some great passes, while Dan had some great scoring chances, just to miss. Ching took the early lead. Robert McLeod using some heads-up hockey skills slipped the puck back to the point where Joey Goodhew waited to fire it by the Ching goalie, tieing the game 1-1. The score stayed tied for some time until Ching stepped up the pace and Judd Richardson and Robert McLeod were knocking on Ching’s joor throughout the game but just couldn’t find the key to Ching’s net. John Howell and Ryan Booth made some strong passes and good plays. Ian Cartwright and Arron Kennedy knocked down a few - Ching players to stop them from scoring. Adam Bowman did some good digging along the boards. Defense men Joey Goodhew, Jeff Telford, David Markham and Jeff Bahr showed they took no nonsense. from Ching around our net. They sent many Ching players to the ice when things got tough at the blue line and in front of our net. Goalie Joey Barber played strong in net for Georgetown stopping some near impossible shots keeping the score low. Chris Hall kept the spir- its up on the bench. This is only the Black Machines’ second game and with a few more practise laps together Georgetown will be back looking for a win from Ching next time they meet. It is guaranteed to be a good game. Thank you to Mal Dodge for his sponsorship and we invite him to come watch us play anytime. PNicclal (olay Now booking Winter BOAT & VEHICLE STORAGE Inside & outside storage available...
