The theatre company will be staging a special, one-night only benefit performance of the play, “The Curate Shakespeare - As You Like It.” To be held Oct. 22 at John Elliott Theatre, all proceeds for the benefit show will go to the United Way of Halton Hills. Bob Malcolmson, the United Way’s 1992 campaign chairperson, is enthusiastic about this fundrais- ing opportunity. “We’re very pleased that Georgetown Little Theatre will be donating their time and talents to the 1992 United Way campaign. This benefit show enables residents to contribute to the United Way and enjoy great entertainment - all in one evening.” While the title, “The Curate Shakespeare-As You Like It” may sound vaguely familiar, the play is quite different from what William Shakespeare had originally intend- Shakespeare’s masterpiece, “As You Like It.” What makes the GLT production especially fascinating is the skill of the professional director, Mimi Mekler. Mekler has added a generous dash of music to the play - a pro- duction originally written by Don Nigro as a comedy. And if the comedy and musical scores don’t satisfy even the most critical of theatre-goers, then the play’s quick tempo should grab their attention. The play’s 21 original pieces of music were composed by Jason Miller, the musical direction and accompaniment will be provided by Georgetown’s Haydn Evans. Jill Evans will be choreographing the GLT production. Producers for the musical comedy are Fran Anthony and Joyce Holland. An income tax receipt for this special benefit performance will be available at the theatre prior to the show. Tickets are $10 per person and are available at: The Royal Bank, the United Way office, Red Cross, ASSIC, the Literacy Guild, and the North Halton Association for the Developmentally Handicapped. The United Way of Halton Hills, which raised almost $200,000 in 1991, serves more than 15,000 resi- dents. The organization funds 23 agencies in and around Halton Hills. Parent-Aid says: . .
