Officer charged Halton Regional Police have charged one of their own with assault after a man complained about the use of excess force by an officer. According to a police media release, at about 4 a.m. October 8, members of the Halton Regional Police Service were investigating a vehicle in the parking lot of an O’Toole’s Tavern in Burlington. A dispute erupted and a 23- year-old Burlington man was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. During the arrest, both the arrested person and a Halton Regional Police officer were injured. Both men were taken to Joseph Brant Hospital, treated, and released, the media release said. Police said an allegation was made that a man was struck with a flashlight during the arrest. As a result of an investigation into this matter, charges have been laid against a 33-year-old Halton Police constable working out of the Burlington division. - ‘The officer has been charged with assault with a weapon and is ‘set to appear in a Burlington court November 10.
