Can they work together to win the Olympic gold? Will they fall in love in the meantime? Are there stars in the sky? Kelly and Sweeney have good chemistry, and the skating footage is well-done. Rating: ** 1/2 Basic Instinct (R, 122 m., 1992) is a thriller starring Michael Douglas as a twisted cop who is mesmerized by a murder suspect (Sharon Stone) whose kinky sexu- ality turns him on. Is he placing himself in danger? The movie keeps us interested until the disappointing final shot, which reveals that the plot was so manipu- lative all the evidence could be read either way. Lots of sex, violence and pathology, adding up to little apart from a mechanism to toy with the audience. Rating: ** Straight Talk (PG, 92 m., 1992) is a harmless but disappointing comedy about a Southern woman (Dolly Parton) who fails. at love, drives up to Chicago, and through a misunderstanding finds herself thrust on the air as a radio advice personality. Newspaper reporter James Woods suspects she’s a phony, but falls in love with her during his investigation. Parton is winning as always, and there are some laughs, but the romantic chemistry is unconvincing and the screenplay plows very old ground.
