But quicker than you could say -“It’s over,’’ the Raiders found themselves going down to their seventh straight loss, thanks to Dan Delmonte of the Oakville Blades. Delmonte’s goal with 27 seconds to play lifted the Blades to a 7-6 win over the Raiders on Saturday night. In MIlton on Friday, the Raiders dropped a 7-4 decision to the defending Central League champions. Goaltender Carmello Giurello, a league all-star with Georgetown last year who only signed on with the Raiders last week, played in both contests and couldn’t be fault- ed with the losses, coach Charlie Hanman said. “I feel very confident with Carm in goal,’ Hanman said. “He played well last year, but he’s a better goalie now. “If we can get some help on defence, we'll be fine. Oakville held a 2-1 first-period advantage, and lead 3-2 entering the third. Jonathan Levack, seeing his first action in a while after sit- ting out with a neck injury, led the way with two goals. Brent Ford, Dean Roberts, with the Raiders shorthanded, Jim English and Ian Ellis had the other goals. The Raiders were minus four regulars for the Oakville game. Team captain Trevor Elinesky will be out for two weeks with a sepa- rated shoulder after being injured in a high school football game Friday. Dean Doner couldn’t play Saturday after shattering the toe of one of his skates and being unable to fine a replacement pair. Forward Randy Bond also was out because of a bad leg bruise and Todd McKee had a prior engagement. Results of the Milton game weren’t available. The Raiders are expecting a host of new faces in practice this week, including Jeff Churney, a 20-year- old defenceman who has Junior experience in both the Central and Metro Junior leagues. With the Raiders currently having four rook- ies back on defence, the club hopes Churney, if signed, could provide stability on the blueline. Also expected are centre Sonny Cordillo, a Milton team member who elsewhere; forward Peter Ronson, who is listed as being six- foot-two and tipping the scales at pounds; and left-winger Mike Croucher, who spent time with Milton and the Acton Jr. C Sabres (who are now in Erin). The Raiders would also like to take another look at left-winger Jason Mizzi, a new resident of Georgetown currently attending York University. Mizzi played Junior B in London last year, but Raiders officials haven’t been able to get in touch with him recently. The contest started aggressively, with Matt Hotham’s unassisted goal at 4:36 opening the care. The contest continued with aggressive play, highlighted by Bae back SOE from Scott Ellis and Bryan Hes st Tyler Pearce came up with a big save at the 2:16 mark, with Josh Travers continuing to forecheck well.
