The meeting was organized by two community groups, Stop Credit River Valley Dumps (in Halton and Peel) and Brampton Concerned Citizens. The other site is just north of Huttonville, southeast of the juncture of Highway 7 and Mississauga Road. “All the work done in the past says no landfill should be located there (on the three sites),” Bruce Reed, chairman of Brampton Concerned Citizens, told the crowd. The three sites being considered by the province were previously rejected by Peel Region authorities as being unsuitable for environ- mental reasons. “They’re in a recharge, discharge area...near the headwaters of the Credit River,” he said. “The area is home to endangered species of flora, fauna and fish,” he added. “The IWA has consistently refused to look at impact on river ecosystems in their site selection process,” Reed chraged.
