By Dianne Cornish About 300 angry and concerned citizens from the Credit River ham- lets of Norval and Huttonville packed into the Huttonville Public School gymnasium Thursday night om to discuss how they'll effectively Ee fight the possible siting of a Peel garbage dump near their communi- ties. The meeting was organized by two community groups, Stop Credit River Valley Dumps (in Halton and Peel) and Brampton Concerned Citizens. The groups, which amal- gamated three months ago, are against three sites in northwest Brampton which are on a short list of candidate sites for a Peel landfill ,.feleased three © by the Interim Waste AuRoriey: awa), Two of the sites are on the Halton- Peel border just north of Norval on the east side of Winston Churhill Boulevard. The other site is just north of Huttonville, southeast of the juncture of Highway 7 and Mississauga Road. “All the work done in the past says no landfill should be located there (on the three sites),” Bruce Reed, chairman of Brampton Concerned Citizens, told the crowd. The three sites being considered by the province were previously rejected by Peel Region authorities as being unsuitable for environ- mental reasons. “They’re in a recharge, discharge area...near the headwaters of the Credit River,” he said. “The area is home to endangered species of flora, fauna and fish,” he added. “The IWA has consistently refused to look at impact on river ecosystems in their site selection process,” Reed chraged.
