GREAT DANCE TUNES OPENS 5 PM DAILY, SAT & SUN 12 NOON Latest dance craze sweeps into Norval By Laura Salverda Foot-stamping, heel-clicking, toe-fanning fun can be had at the Hollywood Tavern in Norval on Tuesday nights. Over 60 enthusiastic participants came out for the third week of the overwhelmingly successful line dancing lessons. Owners, Joe Vet, Don Hendry, and bartender, Tex Pelisek, knew a good thing when they saw it and were extremely pleased. “It’s going over great,” said Pelisek, who described himself as the greatest bartender in Norval; before explaining he is the only bartender in Norval. Vet and Pelisek agreed to dis- agree in friendly banter over who first thought of the idea. “We both came up with it,” said Vet. “We were looking for a form of family entertainment and this is going Las, nicely. This is only the third week and we're getting the kinks word out. “We went up to the Lorretto Inn to investigate it. I'd seen it before on TNN and suddenly everybody was talking about it,” said Vet. Line dancing teachers J.C. Watson and Judy MacLeod hail from Lorretto and Orangeville, respectively. Watson has been dancing for four years, while MacLeod has been dancing for about a year and they both have won awards. The pair met through their dancing and have an informal agreement to teach together at the _ Hollywood. “Tt’s a lot of fun and anybody can do it, whether you know how to dance or not,” said MacLeod. “But, the couples dances are the best.” MacLeod demonstrated two cou- ples dances for the crowd with her star pupil, from Orangeville, Steve Hayward. “They’re doing great,” MacLeod said of her newest pupils, between. dances. “It’s good times, good fun and good people. But we could use more men.” The students learn two new dance steps one week and one the next week so they re-learn each dance two weeks in a row. Georgetown resident Karen Nicholl also saw line-dancing in Lorretto, before she started asking for it in Norval. “It’s fun and it’s great exercise,” Nicholl said. “By the time you’re done the sweat is just rolling off you. The first week it was very con- fusing, but now we are starting to catch on. Brian Cillis, also a Georgetown resident, was out dancing for the first time and said the guys at work would Lets never let him live this one “T was aay glad when they called a break,” Cillis said dryly, after the first two songs. “I felt like 2 The line dancing has proven so successful that MacLeod and atson are considering adding a second night in Norval, with a beginners and intermediate class. That makes all those third-time stu- dents in Norval, old hands, or boots, as the case may be.
