Gift policy on hold Town council agreed at Monday’s committee meeting to delay consideration of a code of conduct policy until November. The policy would outline proce- dures for town staff and members of council to follow in disclosing gifts from outside sources. Council approved a staff report from town clerk Janet Lunn Stewart recom- mending the policy issue be held in abeyance because of proposed Ontario government legislation which will address disclosure of. gifts. Town staff will report ‘to council by Nov. 1 with a proposed code of conduct. Parking dilemma Upset by the growing number of large commercial vehicles parked in residential driveways throughout Haltof Hills, council has directed planning staff to review options that will prohibit or control the practice. Council might consider adopting a uniform bylaw restric- tion that would ban heavy commer- cial type vehicles from residential driveways, even though planning director Ian Keith warned that the legality of such a bylaw might be suspect. Zoning bylaws regulate the . use of land and cannot be used to regulate personal property, such as trucks or buses, Keith told council. Even so, council members insisted some control is needed and they directed staff to report back with options that will hopefully resolve the dilemma. Fence protection needed A group of McKinnon Avenue residents in Georgetown South has asked council to support their pro- posal for a chain link fence and additional landscaping on the nar- row stretch of land separating their street from Mountainview Road. The applicant for the proposal, Joe Hewitt, said a six-foot noise fence will be constructed at the rear of the property and.a new car wash device featuring automatic doors will min- imize other noise. Council will not make a decision on the proposal until receiving a recommendation from planning staff at a later date.
