Monday night’s pub league, Tuesday nights mixed male/female league in the Legion and the Wednesday night Industrial, male, league in the Legion together with the ladies league on Mondays in the Legion - not failing to mention the friendly darts played all over town. No doubt about it, a popular recreation, with all manner of games around the board. Monday’s pub league is played for 14 points a match. Eight singles, four doubles, and two-team sets make up the games. Wednesday night’s Industrial league has nine sets of triples making up the match total of nine points available in competition. Legion #4 won, again, maintain- ing their unbeaten record to date. This past week a narrow win by 8-6 over Legion #3 saw them stay in front. Ties in singles and teams left them to win 3-1 in doubles for the victory. A pretty good showing by #3 nevertheless. Second place McGibbon picked up a few points in winning 12-2 at Legion #1. George #2, in third place, were held to a 7-7 tie at Copper Kettle #2, Kettle being a better squad than their 11th spot suggests. This was a good match, played in good spirit throughout. Fourh place, O’Tooles, pulled off a 9-5 win at Timeout #1 for a fine result. George #1 move into 6th place after beating Legion #2 by 10-4. George #3 won only their second match of the season and Copper Kettle were the recipients; Kettle were short of players and had to use the ‘dummy’ a few times. Timeout #2 lost 6-8 to George #4 to round out the results. Hugh Smid, Paul Kirby and Bruce Buchanan each scored 180 and Russ Hillier took out a fine 150 in doubles, (the******!), (Guess who he did that to?) Danny Drumm finished 106 and Larry Varey took out 100. Darlene Wheeler and Colin Hicks each scored 160 and 140. Erwin See fired double 140s and 135. Double 140s came from two Pauls- Dean and Kirby, as well as Pete Pickering. Sherri Reid and Joyce Farmer both scored 140 as did sev- eral other players on the night. The all-girls team four of Darlene Wheeler, June Norton, Kim Smid and June Norton, representing O’Tooles, won their match over Vic Lovell, Hank Van Gogh, Rich Rintjema and Dan Dobreen of Timeout. Leading the MVP category is Paul Kirby with 176 points, includ- ing 87 bonus points for high scores, maximums and finishes. Teammate Dave Scutt is second with 146 and Pete Pickering third with 143. Rounding out the top10 in order, are Stan Rhynold, Ian McDonald, self, Chris Scutt, Eddie Ebbinge, Erwin See and Brad Youmans. Leading singles wins are Paul Kirby, Dave Scutt, self, Larry Varey and Keith Radcliff with 18. Eighteen wins in doubles leads the way with Erwin See and one match behind comes self with Pete Pickering, Brad Youmans, Herman Rhynold, Bruce Hope and Stan Clark a further match behind. Ron Scarlett had seven starts, Paul Kavanagh had six and Terry Hancock opened four. Beau Beaumont and Dave Scutt each had four finishes with self and Russ Hillier closing three. Ron Scarlett took out 109. Beau Beaumont, Larry Hunt and Bruce Stevens scored 140s and Bruce Stevens also closed out a noisy four for a return (0 form. In the second division Dream Team won 5-4 over close chal- lengers Ensigns having to win the last set for the win. Hotshots took advantage to leapfrog into second place with their 7-2 win over Independents, who remain fourth. Aces defeated Taxmen by 6-3 and, in a double header, Firemen won 9- 5 in total over Bandits, winning both matches. And, all that, despite an alarm call during the match. Six starts for Harry Archer and five for Jim Franks is good throw- ing. Three finishes each for Eddie Ebbinge, Bill Hall, Mike Hope and Hank Van Gogh on the night. Gord Nokes opened 120, Bruce McCartney fired al16 open and Eddie Ebbinge shot 130 for the high score. John Burke scored 138 and Bill Hall shot 127. Novice Raiders burn Chinguacousy 3 - 2 The Minor Novice Raiders squad was hot on home ice Tuesday. The game was fast paced and exciting as the Jr. Raiders took over the first period. Billy McDonald scored his first goal-of the game on a pass in front of the Flamboro net- minder by Andy Burns. Adam Kemp got the credit for the second goal of the period with Thomas Stokes and Andy Burns claiming the assists. Goaltender Donnie Lane played solid, blocking plenty of shots but Flamboro was able to squeeze two goals to tie the game 2-2 in the sec- ond. The third period brought the Jr. Raiders on fast and furious. The entire squad did a fantastic job keep- ing the puck in their opponent’s end. Billy McDonald scooped his second goal of the night and the game win- ner. Brett Velten and Brandon Pearce did a great job assisting to gain the Jr. Raiders their victory. Great goaltending, offence and defence earned the minor novice team a total of three points in the Tri-County playoffs. The Jr. Raiders travel to Oshawa to a tournament over the weekend. They play their next home game on March 9 at Memorial Arena at 7:30. The Jr. Raider’s opponent for the game will be Milton.
