Page 12 — Halton Hills This Week; Wednesday, March 31, 1993 Racing is fast and furious at Mohawk track By Kathy Wade Vlaar Special The racing action was fast and furious at Mohawk last weekend as the Youthful Series, free for all trot and pace, and Graduate simulcast provided first-class harness racing at the ille oval. One of the more memorable wins’ was in Saturday night’s $25,000 Free For All Pace. Trainer Joe Stutzman’s Abdul Kerim, a six- year-old son of Springer, paced to a 1:56 victory for driver Doug Abdul was one of a few survivors from Mohawk’s tragic barn fire last “is fact that Abdul survived that event is in itself somewhat of a mir- acle but the fact he was able to return to the racing scene and regain his familiar winning form is even more of a miracle. After an extended time off after the Mohawk Fire, Abdul went on to have a very successful campaign and completed the year with 11 wins in 26 starts and $114,000 on 4 year. Four $9,000 divisions of the opening leg of The Youthful Pacing Series for three-year-old colts and geldings, non-winners of three races or $15,000 lifetime as of Dec. 31/92 went postward on Sunday night at the Campbellville oval. Steamy Windows, from the Russell Taylor stable, paced to a head decision over Chance of Flurries in the first division with Steve Condren at the helm. The Falcon Seelster colt survived a first over trip to get past pacesetter Armbro Lariat who tired to finish third. Trainer-driver John Kopas guid- ed Bruce Lloyd’s North America Cup hopeful, Make A Face, to a commanding three-length victory, timed in 1:57 in the second divi- sion. Laagical Move was a second with Trojanesque taking third money. Make a Face took over past the opening quarter and never looked back from that station en route to his fifth win in nine season efforts. Ready To Rumble from the Rheal Bourgeois stable and a winner of $71,000 last year won his qualifier over Jerry Duford’s Wilcos Kosby who netted $140,000 in ‘92. Time for the mile was 1:59.2 over a sloppy track. Also, Prince Brian from the Rheal Bourgeois stable won his qualifier in 2:00.3.
