To date, approximately 650 youths have registered to play baseball. It is expected that over 700, the record number of registrants reached last season, will be repeated before the first pitch is made in ‘93. “Rep” try-outs begin this week in local school gymnasiums for those players who are interested in being on one of the nine-“travel” teams propos Those who need more it where and when their age eon will meet should call Naomi Patterson at 877-7954. If you are interested but have not regis- tered yet, it’s not too late: give us a call! The number of House Leagues for ‘93 has been expanded from five to seven. Blue player, Sinead Irvine, directed a kick which was deflected off the basketball backboard and fell directly down behind the goalie’s shoulders for an dati goal against the Purple player: While a doubleheader 2 not unusual in baseball, it is interesting in soccer. Purple players Katherine Tuitman and Trisha Edwards head- ed the ball to each other with no intervening ground play, and, keep- ing up the tradition, a Westman headed three for the g: There was good talc control and Position play by both teams when the peek team and the Blue team met this week. There was only one ceiling ball to slow the play. Purple player Angie Van Egmond aimed many balls at the Blue goalie and forward Jenn Royce scored one just- before half-time. Paula Gougeon scored one for the Blues and then the Blue team started to pour on the power. The score increased as Becky Leferink scored three and then Sinead Irvine and Lindsay Sproule put in one each. Purple player Kathy Irvine took advantage of a ball off the wall on a screen shot but the final score was 6-2 for the Blue team. Knowing that the first goal can demoralize the opposition, yellow Hornet Stephanie Lefebvre scored with a quick shot in over the Red Devil goalie’s shoulder in the first minute of play of the Red and Yellow game. Play see-sawed back and forth as all players tried to the hoop avoid kicking from within the crease. The referee, Lee Sperduti, reminded one goalie to stay in the crease. Kim Moore scored for the Little Devils in the second half. Little Devils Amanda Burgan and Brianne Evers-Jordan played a strong defensive game keeping the ball away from the Hornets. The Red team was penalized for having too many players on the floor and lost a player for a minute of play. The score remained even until Hornet Annie Schaefer passed to teammate Stephanie Lefebvre in the last minute of play and the winning goal was into the Devils net for the Hornets final score of 2-1. March Break week saw the Little Devils team scrambling for players Red players for a day. True Red players Kim Moore and Tina Petersen each scored once for their team and neo-Red player Jennie Royce scored one also for a final score of 3-0 for the Little Devils against the Blue team. The Blue team had one goal disallowed because of ‘the goalie crease rule but continued to kick with strength and determination. The yellow Hornets played a bouncy game as the ball bounced into the Purple net twice with Hornet Jennifer Elliott’s foot at the scoring end of both goals. At the final whistle, Purple forwards Jennie Royce, Faith Malinosky and Angie Van Egmond has been unable to get through the Yellow defense, as they rained many shots on the goal.
