This bridge building craft appeared in the Canadian Leader Magazine recently and has become popular. The bridge had to be built with only 50 popsicle sticks and white glue. It must span 40cm, space for an 8cm road bed and weigh no more than 80G. On March 22, troops from Georgetown, Acton, Ashgrove, Glen Williams and 6th Milton met at Ist Georgetown, St. John’s United Church Hall to be judged for the best design. Then the testing Ea Ed Fa £3 6 tyO J Trusted for Service - Respected for Results was done to see which bridge could withstand a weight test by using the downward pressure in the centre of the span. Judges were District President, Karl Klien, A-D.C. of Scouts, John Sharples and District Commissioner, Elaine Hannah. There was 41 bridges built by Scouts (some joint-built by the Troops) and five by the Leaders. Best design was built by Scout Donald Brooks of 3rd Acton. He was so intrigued, he built two and his second bridge won first prize by * holding 113 lbs without breaking! Second place was taken by Neil Meschino of 6th Milton and Ryan Tyren (joint-built) at 83-1/4 Ibs. Third place was won by Marshall Brown of Ist Ashgrove, 76-1/4 Ibs.
