Amnesty International plans fund-raiser Coffee House By Rosaleen Garneau Special Jim Broughton, a teacher at Georgetown District High School, has one again combined his social conscience with his love of music and has organized an impressive line-up of performers for a Coffee House to take place 7:30 p.m., next Saturday, at St. John’s United Church, 11 Guelph Street. Broughton was instrumental in the formation of Halton Hills Group 196 of Amnésty International which recently cele- brated its first anniversary, and which is now sponsoring its sec- ond Coffee House trained on the classical guitar, lived the life of a traveling professional musician for 10 or 11 years and now has gone full circle, back to the acoustic guitar. Cooper “loves playing and help- ing other people” so he finds the opportunity to perform at the Coffee House ideal. Although he was lead singer in his band, Mankind, he put his voice on hold when he began to concentrate on instrumentals. He is excited about his decision to present a mixture of vocals and instrumentals, including bottleneck blues, at the upcoming event.
