Great time for Steelhead By Mike Leuenberger After the great opening of the door Adventures trout season on the Credit River this year, many happy fisherman will be Hennes ice their ou gear, and dusting off their Walleye (pickerel) ecugeneet For those of us who would like a second chance at a big Steelhead you may be in luck. The week before the May long weekend is a great time to hit the water. The days are long, temperatures mild and spawned-out fish are recovering. Big Rainbows have spent weeks making their way up stream past countless spawn bags and single eggs to the gravel where they spawn. Shortly after spawning they begin feeding and regain their strength and color. The time for spawn sacks and eggs has.come and gone. Now you should be outfitted like someone after resident trout. Spinning rods and reels spooled with four or six pound mono are ideal since they can be used to pre- sent a number of baits. My favorite lures to fish are the Blue Fox, Mepps, and Vibrax spin- ners on Ultra-lite tackle.
