Located in the Becker’s Plaza on the corner of Hwy. 7 and Churchill Road in Acton, their many hours of hard work paid off. When the municipality changed its name in January 1974 to Halton Hills, Jake Kuiken was tight there to change his stores’ name as well. After nearly three years in Georgetown, Jake finally settled in downtown Acton, where Halton Hills Furniture and Appliances are still located at 17 Mill St, E. One-and-a-half years ago, Jake “ sold his business to his son, Ron, who carried on his father’s tradi- tion of offering total satisfaction, excellent quality products and low prices to his customers. When Jake tumed 57, he decid- ed to take advantage of early retirement but found the easy life wasn’t for him. Upon his return from a holiday in the U.S., he opened a new store, located only five doors west of Halton Furniture and Appliances, called “Clocks and Curios Plus”. His prices range from $10 for a small clock to between $1,150 and $6,500 for a Grandfather clock. He also stocks small wall-hanging cabinets and larger free-standing curios, as well as gift items in the $2.50 bracket. As well, he has a large selec- tion of hardwoods items, includ- ing solid cherry, oak and maple. Other selected hardwoods are found in the tables, chairs, tea carts, rolltop desks, framed mir- rors, hall trees, and world globes. He even has a display of Blue Mountain Pottery. Jake would like to extend an invitation to everyone to come in and browse! Jake Kuiken of Clocks & Curios Plus is shown with a solid oak roll top desk, one of ee many items avail- able at his shop located at 5 Mill Street East in Acton.
