Rebs drop tough one By Mike Zrostek P 9g It was a game the Georgetown District High School Rebels needed; should have had in their back pocket, but let slip away. With the loss, so went their playoff hopes after a 12-8 loss to Perarson Patriots Monday. The Rebels, who had lost a heartbreaker last week, came out flying in search of a playoff spot and responded early and often against Pearson. Greg Dobbin hit the first pitch deép to left for a double - one of three hits he got on the day. With runners on first and third Adam Poyntz lined one over third to drive in Dobbin. Derek Ellard then walked to load the bases. Ken Kosziwka then hit a-hot one the Patriot pitcher couldn’t handle, scoring Steve Onprijenko. A two-out single by Troy Gardiner scored two giving the Rebels a commanding 4-0 lead. Dobbin led off the second crushing one of the top of the fence in left and later scored on a deep sacrifice fly by Onprijeko. Then, as they would a lot on the day, the Rebels got a rally going with two out as Adam Poyntz doubled, Derek Ellard singled, followed by a Ken Kosziwka double to the fence. Before Pearson knew it the Rebels had them by the apparent jugular 7-0. ‘ Pearson replied with one in their half of the second and could have had more but a nice double play by the Rebels ended the threat. Another two out rally was started by the Rebels with Dobbin singling and Chris Barrow tripling. Two runs came across for the Patriots also with two out in the third. ‘Then the two-out rally theme continued but the wrong way as Patriot catcher Winston Thompson crushed a pitch deep over the fence in left scoring three and it was a game again and Thompson wasn’t finished: The fifth cost the Rebels as three walks, two wild pitches and two timely hits contributed to a Patriot upswing of six runs. Three on a bases-loaded triple by Thompson, who finished the day with six runs batted in. With the loss the Rebels drop to 1-4 and with three games left, the next two against power houses Burlington Central and Notre Dame, Georgetown is going to have to play some solid ball to even hope to make the playoffs.
