Cox was a first-ballot winner, receiving 72 of the 102 votes avail- able. Cox succeeds Stan Tyminski, of Mississauga, who left the party to tun for the presidency of Poland. The new Libertarian Party leader had served as deputy leader since 1991 Party. The Libertarian party challenged in 88 ridings in the 1988 federal election - according to party infor- mation, more than any other party with the exception of the PCs, the Liberals and the NDP - but failed to gain a House of Commons seat. ‘The party hopes to field over 100 candidates in the projected fall fed- eral election.
