Arbor Award to Ramautarsingh The University of Toronto selects people who have made out- standing and superior contributions to the university over a period of years. ‘The faculty and staff have chosen Tom Ramautarsingh ° Georgetown as one of the volun- teers who has demonstrated dedica- tion, leadership, given many hours of volunteer time and has been an inspiration to the University com- munit Ramautarsingh served on the University of Toronto Alumni Association Board of Directors for four years. He co-chaired the first Chancellor Award Committee and wrote the criteria for this Award. He also served on the Faculty Award Committee for three years, gone which he served as secretary. The greatest number of graduates did not belong to a club or an orga- nization on campus. He served as Bedel at many Convocations. At the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, Mr. Ramautarsingh proposed that an OISE Alumni Association be orga- nized. He and five other graduates were called together by Dr. Bernard Shapiro (Director of OISE) to spearhead the organizing of this association. He spent two years as vice-president and in the writing of aconstitution and bylaws. He wrote all the bylaws. At Spring Reunions he served as chairman of the Host and. Hostess Committee for three years. At one of these reunions he welcomed Marc Garneau, Canada’s first astro- naut. Ramautarsingh organized and chaired the OISE Phoneathons and was Treasurer of Phi Delta Kappa, University of Toronto Chapter for four years. Ramautarsingh said, “It is a great honor to be selected for one of the Arbor Awards. I thank the faculty, staff and fellow alumni for giving me the opportunity to serve the uni- versity. It is indeed a privilege to assist in the execution of some of the programs at Canada’s largest university. I have made a lot of friends and that in itself has brought rich rewards.
