By Ruth D. Taylor _ Hot days led to hot soccer this week for the Under-11 girls’ soc- cer games. In Acton, the Green team and the Red Milliere’s TV team met at the Elizabeth St. pitch. Bethan Elliott was the scor- er of the week with five goals for the Milliere’s TV team. She was assisted by forwards Mary Krasnay, who netted her first of the season, and Sharilyn Kogon. Jessica Macdonald saved some good Green shots by Amanda Burgan, Melissa Maveal and Sinead Irvine. Referee Marissa Fread helped when Red player Kerri Roulstone stopped a ball with her face. The Blue Optimists scored two goals on the first half when play- ing the Gold Poppacorns in Acton. Janine Taylor was on tar- get with a goal as was Becky Culp with a goal on a penalty ares Gold PoppaCorns burst forth in the second half and put their goals in with good pass plays. PoppaCorn Rhonda Myers scored her second goal of the sea- son - her first with her left foot. Stephanie Fielding kicked out some corner balls and Danielle King caught one out of the air with her knee and dunked it in the Blue net. She got another later in the game for a 3-2 score for the PoppaCorns. Teammates Heather Stevens made good plays at cen- ter forward and Michelle Smyth hustled to cover defense. Meanwhile, in Georgetown, the orange Linda Armstrong/Johnston players fired three goals as the play was focused in the red half of the field. Laura Shields scored after a pass from Ellen Smith. Single. goals were scored by 5. Bolton players Kim Melcher and Melissa Mertineit, who scored on a penalty kick. The Opti-Mrs. forward line of Kim Moore, Erin O’Leary, Amanda Devries and Jenn Shields passed well and kept the Bolton goalie busy. Jenn netted the first local goal, then Amanda lateralled one in on a pass from Erin. Bolton player, Natalia Champagnie nailed some good headers while Allison Kenny kicked the big ones. Opti-Mrs. players Rachel Buikema and Jenn Royce contributed to the game with good stops and long kicks. Georgetown then netted two more via Kim after a corner kick from Amanda and Amanda dunked the last one for the final score, 4-2 for the Opti-Mrs. The second game was an away- game in Brampton and a good chance to display nice passing and several Kodak moments. The Golden Angels yellow Brampton team played good aaa and several Brampton players ed some fancy footwork aiuieee two goals. Both goals were earned after a lateral cross from the side to the cen- ter with Nina Sampogna earning one. ti-Mrs. Kim Moore scored and then Tan Shields had a hat trick - one from an acute angle, one on a penalty kick to the top corner and another after a pass from Amanda Devries. Amanda then passed to Kim who passed to Sandra Vandervinne, who netted her first of the season. Also playing well were Miranda Under-15 girls Jamieson with a good header, Carolyn MacNeal with defensive running and Courtney Norman hus- tling as halfback.
