Silver Creek Valley being strictly monitored By Oksana Buhel The Public Liaison Committee (PLC) met Wednesday evening at the Town of Halton Hills Civic Centre to discuss the last of eight projects proposed in the Silver Creek Valley, before discussing the cumu- lative impact all eight will have on the environment. The PLC, composed of representatives from envi- - ronmental agencies, socio- cultural groups, economic groups and individual citi- zens, is one commenting agency which is reviewing the proposed projects in the Silver Creek Valley area. * The Steering Committee is another commenting agency involved with the Silver Creek projects. It is made up of representatives of the Ministry of Energy Environment (MOEE), Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), Halton Region, Town of Halton Hills staff, PLC rep- resentatives, Credit Valley Conservation Authority and MM. Dillon Ltd., engineer- ing consultants for the pro- jects. The final commenting agency, whose views will be considered by M.M. Dillon before the complete environ- ment study report is con- cluded and placed in the public record, is Halton Regio Bea Leung, regional manager of special studies and research, is very posi- tive about the cumulative impact study. “No one in Ontario has really done what we’ ve done,” he boasted. The other projects pro- posed in the Silver Creek Valley Georgetown area are a Mountainview Rd. bridge spanning the valley; Main St. widening; construction of a water main along Main St.; establishment. of a new municipal water supply at Test Well 15, near Main St. and the Silyer. Creek Valley; a proposed golf course; development in Georgetown South and development in Georgetown West. Each project has been evaluated according to its degree of impact on the environment. Leung admit- ted the only projects which may present some difficul- ties are’the golf course and the test well, but all projects will be more extensively studied, and ranked accord- ingly. If all projects cause too much strain on the envi- ronment, the projects priori- tized at the bottom of the list ronmental study report is finished, a 30-day review period will follow, succeed- ed by formal approvals and then construction, operation and monitoring. Leung claimed the research portion of the project should be completed by September. “We're right on schedule,” Leung boasted. “There are too many people involved for us to delay.” Earh ( - pole Bonus draw for $1,000: New Year's Eve draw for 00 "Helping people find their Residential Real Estate Services Tow & County cere Division 170 oct SN 01000000, DONNA ROBBINS ROYAL LEPAGE L“Sates” NI perfect nest!"
