Ballinafad store has new owner By Betty Sojka Well, it’s official now! As of Aug. 3 the Ballinafad General Store has been sold to-Mrs. Nancy Berg. Best wishes are extended to for- mer owner Bonnie Walker, and new owner Nancy Berg. What a great time was had over the weekend for partici- pants in the Ballinafad Annual 3-pitch tournament. Eight teams competed for championships in the two divisions. The tournament was set up so that each team was guar- anteed to play at least two games. First game was played Saturday morning at 8:30 between "s Hooligans and the Over The Hill Gang. It rained in many areas but not in Ballinafad so that there were no delays. With coaches Carol Ann See and Sandra Prowse guiding them, Vera’s Viruses put out Johnny’s Jays Sunday afternoon to win the consolation champi- onship. A Few Too Many came up with the $250 prize for the championship. A Few Too Many team | members hail from Erin, and two from Hillsburgh. Sunday was a beautiful, bright, sunny day. A large group of people came out to the park to watch the cham- pionship games. The Hall Board worked hard supply- ing delicious coffee and donuts in the morning and then hotdogs and-hamburg- ers for lunch. Thanks to them, everyone could have a nice meal. The Ballinafad Communit Centre Recreation Committee is to be commended for a well- run tournament as well as the Beach Party Dance on Saturday night. Over 100 tickets were sold for this dance, making it a good Terry Fox run on Sept. 19 The organization of the Georgetown Terry Fox Run is off to a great start. The chosen route for the run extends through varied ter- rain throughout the commu- nity and takes place on Sept. 19, starting at 8 a.m. Participants of all ages will be welcome to run, bicycle, walk, run, jog or wheel on a well-marked course that stretches. across 5km or 10km, depending on the par- ticipant’s ability. The empha- sis is on participation and not competition or completion of the entire course. Refreshments will be available throughout the run and there will be many pre- run and post-run activities to amuse young and old alike. Pledge sheets will be avail- able at your local chartered banks. This family affair will be a perfect event in which all members of the community can make a difference by participating and donating for the benefit of Canadian | MON TO Cancer Research. So mark WED your calendar for the 13th Annual Terry Fox Run. The next dance is happen- ing in September for the Corn Roast. The Jim Dandies pulled off another win last Wednesday, against Random. Vera Longstreet and Marion Lumbers shared the pitching duties.
