First; The Fugitive, starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones, and now In The Line Of Fire, starring Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood. ‘ In The Line Of Fire is the story of Secret Service agent Frank Horrigan (Clint Eastwood), the last serving agent who was on duty at the assassination of U.S. President J.F. Kennedy. Horrigan is of the old school, a little too chauvin- istic for the ‘90s and still too rebellious to play office pol- itics. Age has not mellowed him. Following a tip from a landlady, Horrigan begins investigating a potential plot against the President’s life. The would-be assassin, who IN THE LINE 7 OF FIRE, ALTON HILLS FIRE DEPARTMENT | Jag EI ay "a 9-1-1 pants SAY IG SUN OKIE | OF THE YEAI EMERGENCY Movie Review goes by the of “Booth” (the name of Lincoln’s assassin), is a crazed ex-CIA hit-man eager to exact revenge on a system that created a mon- ster and then spit it out. Booth (played by John Malkovich) takes up a cat and mouse game with Horrigan as he stalks the President. With his in-depth knowledge of the JFK assas- sination, Booth is able to taunt Horrigan in repeated phone calls by dredging up ° memories of that fateful day in ‘63 when Horrigan was slow to react and failed to save the President by becoming a human shield. The story line builds and builds to a climax that has you hanging on every word and tum of the plot. Director Wolfgang Petersen, best known for the critically acclaimed Das Boot, draws out a sensitive Side in Eastwood that has been anything but his trade- mark. While he plays the role of the monster, he is able to create empathy for the char- acter. Malkovich's role is not Oscar material, but he will be nominated. Eastwood, however, has pulled off another Oscar- winning performance on the heels of his 1992 Best Director Oscar for the revi- sionist Unforgiven. P.S. The Secret Service is a division of the United States Treasury. In a rare display of openness, the Secret Service actively cooperated with the making of In The Line of Fire.
