Consisting of 24 Photographs, the exhibit, which is’on loan from the National Archives of Canada, explores ways in which pho- tography expand human abil- ity to see. Like the human eye, pho- tography shows depth, move- ment and color. Unlike that of humans, however, the Photographic eye can stay open for longer periods to record what we cannot see. Pluto and its moon, Charon, were both discovered in this century as traces of light in Photographs. Photography also captures movement too quick for humans to appreci- ate. While the eye sees a high-jumper going over the bar, and the human mind is ° able to recall the action as a whole, only the camera cap- tures a lasting image of the high-jumper in mid-air, Apercu: Unseen Visions also explores the capabilities of photography to use non- visible light in beneficial ways. The discovery of X- rays in 1895 has made it Ppos- sible to look inside the human body without the use of invasive Surgery. Computer-produced images using infrared light can be used in remote sensing. In ordinary Photography, infrared light helps surveyors work on hazy days. Apergu: Unseen Visions will be on display at the Halton Region Museum from this Monday until Dec. 17, The Museum is open daily Monday to Friday from noon to 4 p.m. It is located west of Milton in Kelso Conservation Area, on Regional Road 28.
