SCORES Glen 24 Omagh 11 Glen 7 Hornby 18 Glen 11 Omagh 10 Glen 16 Hornby 11 Championship Game: Glen 17 Hornby 16 CIBC and Arnies challenge for crown By Leanne Fournier Fans will see a‘rematch of last year’s final in the Georgetown Ladies Flag Football League as CIBC and Amies go head-to-head at 9:30 this Sunday. In regular sea- son play, Aries won two of the three contests against CIBC and in all three contests, the game was decided by four points or less. This should prove to be an interesting matchup. Arnies had little difficulty gaining their championship berth as they defeated JV 24-0. JV was never in this game as Caroline McMillan seemed to scored at will. JV’s defense was suspect as they played man-to-man the entire game. Carol Kovacevic, Jodi Jacobs, and Michelle McMillan all had majors while Judy Grinberg picked up a two-point con- vert. Caroline chipped in a field goal and a single to aid the cause. JV got on the score sheet with a lone interception by Lynn McKenzie. JV’s prospects for next year look promis- ing if they can keep the same Players and their coach. In the first battle of the moming, the spark of playoffs could be seen in each M & M’s players’ eyes, In spite of the lack of two key players, Sheri Nairn and Sandra Cousens, M & M rose to the cause. CIBC looked sharp early with a major by Colleen Price and a Monica Mastalerz single. Midway through the second quarter, M & M punted and rookie sensa- tion Tara Burroughs returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. M & M then marched the distance and gave one of their patent hand-offs to speedster Donna Davey for six. Without their regular kicker, they went for two points but the Pass was bat- ted away. Monica Mastalerz tonned a Punt to give CIBC a single which gave them a 14-6 lead. But then the unthinkable hap- pened. It was surely a page out of the first year GLFFL histo- ty books. Dianne Tooze snagged an interception for CIBC and ran 50 yards to the two yard line of M & M before her teammates were able to alert her that she had run in the wrong direction. CIBC’s offense then faltered and M & M moved the ball with the precision of their team of old. Denny Ursel ran 10 yards for a touchdown but again, their tow-point convert failed. With time winding down, M & M marched the ball but could not get close enough to get the go ahead Saturday (today) is the Coaches appreciation dance at St, Alban’s Hall in the Glen, Tickets are $5 per person, door opens at 8-p.m. Tickets are still available.
