- Seniors bus service hits some roadblocks By Eileen Ross. A busing service instituted for Georgetown seniors isn’t being-accepted as well as the service’s sponsors, the mer- chants of Georgetown Marketplace, had hoped. The free service started last Tuesday and the pro- posed schedule has the bus picking up seniors at the four seniors living complexes in Georgetown every Tuesday and delivering them to the Georgetown Marketplace for shopping between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. However, Florence Smith associated with the Halton Senior’s Health Council, believes not enough research and thought was put into cre- ating the busing system. “They just didn’t do their homework.” says Smith. She has several seniors on her side in questioning some aspects of the system. They feel the bus ride is too long, (an hour from first pick-up to mall drop-off) and the shop- ping time should be increased. Smith feels the time at which shopping is scheduled is inconvenient because it’s during the lunch he jour. Also, Smith claims not enough seniors were consult- ed on whether or not the ser- vice would actually be help- ful to them. Instead, she says plans were made without proper background into the mts and needs of the seniors community. The scheduled shopping day apparently interferes with the Georgetown Seniors group meeting, and various other groups and clubs that have already begun for the year. According to Smith, pas- sengers who have to walk with a cane, walker or even wheelchairs didn’t receive a proper amount of considera- tion.
