The junior squad won by scores of 15-9,15-9, and 15- 3, while the seniors were pressed to three, winning 15- 10, 13-15 and 15-12 despite missing the court 17 times. (Matches are two-out-of- three affairs, with.a third game optional if not neces- “We were fortunate to win, the game could have gone either way,” said seniors coach Bob McKay. “Assumption is a scrappy team and they could have won. Our hitters couldn’t hit the court, but those things n.” After winning the first game, the senior Rebels let a 10-8 lead in game two slip away, dropping it 13-15. “Our hitters just had prob- lems throughout the game, we did everything else right. Our serving and defense played great, it was just get- ting the ball back over,” added McKay. The.tables turned in game three as Assumption had a 12-10 lead but the Rebels stormed back and rattled off five straight points to win, something McKay and other people have noticed the Rebels have a tough time “For some reason we have a tough time getting from 10 to 15. Other teachers have Noticed it but today they (the Players) did it and it’s great that they did.” The seniors were without Dave Sands and Gavin Glaser who are nursing injuries but the other players brought their game level up a notch, something McKay said was nice to see. “Everybody played well,” said McKay. “Matt Brain played a strong game. It will be great when we get Glaser back in a week and when Sands comes back, watch out, he’s such a great all- around player.” Meanwhile, the junior squad swept Assumption in their opener and coach Russ Linney is expecting an enjoy- able and successful season. “We got off to a bit of a slow start,” said Linney. But we didn’t play down to our opposition but played to our potential and that’s nice to see. We have to work on keeping the points down, But we played solid.” “I'm not putting down Assumption, they have nice players and are coached well,” added Linney. “This is a team with tremendous potential,” boast- ed Linney about his own charges. “We have a lot of juniors eager to learn. We just tried some new stuff this morning (Wednesday) in practice and they picked it up quick.” Linney says with 14 play- ers on the team, players have to keep their smarts up because he won’t hesitate to bench guys if they are not playing up to par. “Smart, creative, energetic, good size.and a pleasure to coach,” is the way Linney describes his team. “A team without a dominant player but also a team with every- body equal.” The senior and juniors were in action Thursday, Tesults were not available at Press time. Next action for the junior and senior Rebels volleyball squads is Wednesday in Burlington against Lord Elgin. Leagues settling Paul Sandifer and Kate Potosky are this week’s Georgetown District High School Athletes of the Week.
