The duathlon is a race which has the competitors running five kilometres, cycling 40 kilometres and then finishing the event by running another five kilome- Warner was obviously delighted with the win but says it,was a bit of a sur- Ise. “] was thrilled just to go (to Dallas),” she said. “But to win my age category was a bonus.” Warner ran the event in two hours and 11 minutes, while the second-place fin- isher from the United States was four minutes back. Warner started the sport two-and-a-half years ago, originally training for the triathlon with her husband Courtney who competed in this gruelling event. Dallas, Texas, recently, she thoroug] makes sure her bike is in tip-top condition before heading id medal age-class winner while representing Canada in hly enjoys the competition. photo submitted Anita. “He said that I should compete in a triathlon,” chuckled Anita. “So Courtney ended up coaching me and I then participated in one, I didn’t finish because I’m not a good swimmer, but it was fun.” Warner does a combina- tion of sports for her training in the duathlon including running, bicycling and swimming at various clubs. “People may think you’re training all hours of the day, but you don’t,” she said. “T just mix it up and do a little bit of them all. This year I trained through the winter to get ready.” Warner competed at a meet in Quebec that allowed her to qualify for her eventu- al win in Dallas. “J was thrilled just to go to Dallas but even more thrilled to win my age category. My goal at the beginning of the year was to just qualify (for Dallas). Warner plans to compete at an upcoming 10 km meet in Hamilton before her sea- son comes to a conclusion. Training will continue for Warner during the winter before it all starts again in May, but Warner enjoys the sport and the competition and will be ready to go again next year. Beaver Lumber Raiders hit cold streak After going undefeated in’ their first six games, the Georgetown Beaver Lumber Major Novice Raiders have now dropped three in a row, most récent- to Brantford and Orangeville. Against Brantford on the road last Sunday, the Raiders came out flying in the opening period as Kevin Oulds gave Beaver Lumber a 1-0 first period lead, with Billy McDonald and Rusty Parsons assisting. < pumped in the next four goals in the second and third periods giving them a commanding 4-1 lead well into the third. Matt Knoepfli tried to get the Raiders back into it with a goal at 2:32 of the third making it 4-2.
