The library formerly in connection with Acton Public School having been removed to the Town Hall, will be much more convenient to our citizens than it was at the school. A very neat and convenient system of shelves has been arranged in the reading room of the hall by Mr. Thomas Ebbage and the library now presents a very creditable appearance. There are over 1400 volumes in the collection embracing nearly all classes of literature. A number of the books are out of repair and we would be pleased to see immediate steps taken for putting them into proper condition.
The Town bell now rings every Monday evening at seven o’clock to announce that the public school library is open for those who wish to obtain books.

1.11.02 Newspaper clipping. The Toronto Globe, November 27, 1923. New I.O.O.F. Hall is Duly Dedicated. Grand officers Present at Georgetown to Conduct Fraternal Ceremonies. Three Hundred Attend. (Acc. #99.03) (See also Georgetown Herald, September 26, 1923, Page 3, Column 3.)
Georgetown, Nov. 26 – Services in connection with the dedication of the fine new lodge-rooms and hall of the Georgetown Oddfellows took place this evening. A banquet, of which upward of 300 members and friends partook, was furnished by the Verdun Rebecca Lodge, followed by the dedication ceremony of Orion Lodge, No. 109, conducted by W.G.R. Bartram of London, Grand Master; B. Brookes of Toronto, Grand Secretary; C.H. Mann, Hamilton, Grand Marshall; A.C. Cummer, Hamilton, Grand Chaplain; G.C. Johnston, Toronto, Grand Herald, and the following officers already installed: H. [Cleave], Noble Grand; William Marshall, Vice-Grand; William Long, Recording Secretary; S. Nevins, Financial Secretary; M. Near, Treasurer.
Among those present were officers and members from Brampton, Toronto, Hamilton, London, Guelph, and surrounding lodges.
The first Oddfellows’ Lodge was installed in Georgetown on March 2, 1873, under the auspices of the Brampton Oddfellows’ Lodge, Golden Star, No. 101. The Grand Master on this occasion was George Wright of Toronto and the Grand Secretary was J.P. King of Toronto Lodge. On that occasion the following officers were installed: J.O. Campbell, Henry [Lost], Isaac Clark, William George Fee, R.D. McMaster and A.C. Watson. Owing to a fire in 1922 the minutes and records of the lodge were destroyed, but the original charter has been preserved.
The hall contains one of the finest arenas and curling rinks in western Ontario. The hockey rink was in use last season and this year the curling rink will be ready for use.
The Arena Board and lodge officers are to be congratulated on having carried the whole work through so successfully. A sad feature of the dedication is the recent death of the Noble Grand, the late H.H. Hartwell, who gave much time and energy to the movement.
