- The home of George Gollop.
Description on back of photo reads: "This home, built by Dr. Benjamin Gollop, a Dentist, and later sold to his brother George, was built in the early 1900's. When Geordie came back to the Village from Nebraska where he operated a small business, he planted his garden with thousands of bulbs, two rows of Spruce trees and a Cedar hedge across the front. In every cranny there were tulips, daffodils, huacinths, crocus, snowdrops, scyllas and narcissus. On a damp morning in the Spring the perfume from that garden and the patchwork of colour enchanted every passer-by. When cars would pull off the highway to admire and enjoy the fruits of his labours, Geordie was pleased to share his own pleasure in his work. That garden was a labour of love, as was his sister's rose garden over the road. (Mrs. Webster's). Geordie was a staunch Presbyterian and you can be sure L.M. Montgomery, his Minister's wife, would often have a bouquet on her table. Mrs. Macdonald coached the Community Old Time stage concerts held in the Parish Hall, and we can well remember Geordie, in his top silk hat and tails singing in his fine voice ‘Can she make a cherry pie, Billy Boy, Billy Boy, Can she make a cherry pie, charming Billy". Such happy memories of those concerts. - Notes
