ARCHIVES REPORT February 1993 Annual General Meeting submitted by John Mark Rowe Archives Officer The Archives of the Esquesing Historical Society are housed in the Georgetown Public Library under a 1982 agreement with the Halton Hills Library Board. The Public may use the archives upon application to the Librarian on duty. Patrons consult a Finding Aid, fill out a request form and the Librarian gets the requested material from the archives, along with a pair of white gloves. Registered users since 1 February 1992 until 31 January 1993: 2 EHS members 6 Georgetown users 2 Stewarttown users 1 user each from Bramalea, Don Mills, Brampton and Oakville. 1 user each registered with Ryerson Polytechnical, University of Waterloo, and University of Ottawa. 1 photo request from Halton Hills LACAC TOTAL of 18 requests. Our 1992 Summer Student, Stacey Hunter, completed the cataloguing of the HERALD photographs, did a shelf check of the archives and photo collection, helped reorganize the archives Finding Aide and retyped it in the computer. She could not finish the job however, due to illness. The Ontario Society of Archivists sent a representative out this year and upon inspection concluded that we are doing the best we can to preserve our materials given the fact that we do not have humidity and temperature controls. We will join this organization. We have 1390 photographs catalogued in the EHS collection and over 5000 catalogued in the Herald collection. Our collection includes pictures dating from about 1865 up to 1992! The Herald collection covers the years c. 1958 until c. 1972 quite thoroughly. Both photograph collections are on the computer, but are not available for use unless you request it specifically. The collection of audio-tapes now stands at 15. They were taped beginning in 1983 up to 1992. The majority of them were made at our meetings. They are not yet available for public use but plans are under way to do just that.
