- Description
- #133 Main Street south.
This house was erected in 1936. In 1854, Michael McLaughlin sold his property at the corner of Main and Park streets, lot 15 of the G. Kennedy 1857 Survey to the Roman Catholic Episcopal Company for the Diocese of Toronto. A square wooden chapel, dedicated to St. Patrick, was erected on this land between 1855 and 1858. This was the first Roman Catholic Church in Georgetown. The building was destroyed by fire a few years later. Mr. Joseph Barber bought the lot to serve as the front garden for Willowbank, his house, built earlier on lot 32. Sam Mackenzie bought the entire property from the Town at a tax sale in 1935. - Notes
