hundred children carrying one of the bund or orchestral lntru- mcnln in its carte to hc hoof of a morning all through the year but they have not devoted so much attention to voice or choral work particularly with young er children and the work presented by the acton children choruses was in consequence something of a novelty to the townsfolk who were listening one hod a good deal of pride in celling them somethlna of the conditions under which this work is being done in acton and arxiasement was expressed that the re sults evidenced in the program hod been achieved by one teacher in addition to her regular school duties it was really very gratifying va hear as the program proirrcssed comments like how lovely and fresh those childish voices are and there isnt a- whit of evidence they have a great hockey team tn that town must be something of a place when sport and culture are both looked after all this brings to mind in the first instance the publicity value for acton of broadcasts like that of last inter and this latest one of lost saturday evening one could have wished that at least something might have been said over the air in explanation of the conditions under which this choral work is carried on bo that other places wojld have beei led to appreciate what can be done even under somewhat serious handicaps when aoirfone with ability is lmj to give labor of love in devoting the enor mous amount of time and energy requir ed to develop anything like the standard of chorolslnglng we know in actons children but it was understood that the program as planned made this impractic able there is another factor however which is not so immediately apparent and which probably some of the fathers and mothers do not adequately appreci ate miss hunt in her excellent work is not only showing the children some thing of the possibilities of voice and of the joy of singing but is also inculcat ing inevitably a love for good music and a regard in many cases for fine and cultural things which will uld to life- appreciation for the remainder of the lives of the children the finest point of this is that it is being- done quite without the knowledge of the children themselves and that as any authority in pedagogy will admit is an ideal form of education it was really a very happy day for actons children when the late mrs minnie moore began this choral work in the local schools and it is a joy to any one who appreciates cultural things that u is being carried on so capably under miss hunts direction e j m no one could solve last weeks i puzzle poem
