life membership certif icate to miss e hawthorne by mrs e j caldwell on behajr of the society and mrs fosbury presented the pin mrs jas symon presented mrs b veldhuls with a life membership cer tificate and the church choir through mrs gardiner save a life members pin grateful acknowledgement was voiced by the two new life member after this very helpful program mrs smith and miss pear smith of the beanlmore employees association for the children and the versatile reeve x m mcdonald was the jolly santa claus and the centre of the party while bobby anderson was the clown it was held on satur day afternoon needless to ssy the hall was packed tt was a childrens party and the star performer was the funny man who led the singing and was general master of ceremonies a pro fessional artist with a group of train ed dogs also gave a performance of coure the highlight was the ar rival of santa claus who claimed tlie last mile was made on snowshoes owing to the heavy snow there was avjnountaln of christmas gifts with a aackage for every child and a big christmas orange santa claus and his committee had a busy time dis tributing them but none were missed and all were happy pte al sustained extensive injuries to his knee and he had been invalided home in the army for three years he went overseas after six months training in canada not only the family but his many acton friends less from a man from esquesing township the warden thanked the members for their words of commendation and goodwill and also expressed his ap preciation of the good work done by all county council the ys mens club there was a splendid attendance one of the largest of any event in several years the program bristled with features cards were enjoyed for an hour or so and the program proper opened with a demonstration by a group from tor onto on the parallel bars and the varft- lous holds in judo in this group which kindly came to acton were ingram jones physical director of the west end y david burgess instruc tor of judo and ken mccracken their demonstrations were most interesting and enjoyed big feature number too was the annual christmas turkey draw of the ys men a couple of live birds were before the tree and with good old santa claus making the draw there was a real christmas favar mr chas heard was in charge of this item and winners announced were h klaull acton irma watson feature perhaps the word elaborate might be used in des cribing this part as well as big cold meats salads bread and butter cake and coffee eating together and singing togeth er are said to be two of the finest attributes to good sociability and so a feature that followed the lunch was rousing singing of the good om christmas carols with chas klrkness as leader there was both volume and harmony and pretty fine enjoy ment in this part of the program for the young people the closing feature was dancing on the fine gym nasium floor it proved a grand christmas party mr w j bsatty was chairman
