acton womens institute on thursday afternoon mrs george fryer presided and conducted the business of the meeting two dele gates the president and mrs wad- dox the new secretary were ap- pointedjo attend the banquet at the oac to honor mrs b of the acww it was decided to charter a bus to take members to the district an nual at bethel church in may a bus tour and outing was planned to be held in june with visits to points of interest in hamilton and includ ing the ford plant at oakville the annual report of the acton branch was read by mrs f ander son the retiring secretary a repre sentative of the bell telephone was present and gave an illustrated talk on the telephone system and its many advancements over the years especially associated with televi sion mrs fryer thanked the speaker for giving of his time to be a guest and assured him he would be wel come again with more films as this was the annual social meeting a few games of bingo were enjoyed with prizes for the winners when mrs f anderson was a winner she was presented with a lovely gift in appreciation of her work as secretarytreasurer for twelve and a half years lunch was served by members of the executive conrtmittee of certificate from the lieutenant- governor of ontario at the 1956 queens scout recognition cere mony in niagara falls collegiate last friday evening was wayne currie of the first acton troop the honourable louis o brei- thnupt lld lieutenantgovernor of ontario and patron of the boy scouts association the provincial council of ontario spoke individu ally to each new queens scout and scoutmasters as they crossed the stage in alphabetical order accord ing to the towns or cities in the district from which they had come the colorfully uniformed scouts sat together during the program
