a hard ship as i had had a wonderful out ing ovr the weekend an outing that was most unexpected a trip to the lake huron district where i had never been before some months ago friends of ours mentioned having been in kincard ine for the weekend kincardine i exclaimed i have an old school friend in kincardine by compar ing notes we discovered that mrs e actually knew nellie because she lived almost exactly opposite mrs es kincardine friends al- thoii it was quite a coincidence i did not think anything more about it until last week when mrs k phoned me said they were gei- 4ng to kincardine again- and wmrld i like to gn with them would there was only one answer to that question i had looked at the place so of ten on the map and wisljcd rould tackle the 125 mile trip but i knew my eyes wouldnt appreciate driv ing that far but with someone else driving that was another story we left here about seven in the morn ing and got to kincardine about 10 the weather was perfect poor farms crops cut and crops still standing one thing we noticed particularly was the absence- of weeds above guelph it was ob vious that few farms were being sold for subdivisions industrial sites or superhighways as they are down here it was heartening to know there are still miny acres in ontario where fields ore plowed and crops sown and harvested of course there are still plenty of good farms in halton county but they certainly are getting fewer in number all the time kincardine is a very nice little town clean tidy good stores and a very fin residential area and of course there is the lake and a wonderful freshness in the air i noticed this particularly on the monday nellie and i walked down town leaving the kitchen stove alight when we got back the house was stifling had it been here the house wouldnt have cool ed off until night but there with the doors and windows thrown op en the house was fresh and col in no time it was wonderful one thing hampered our activit ies neither nellie nor i had car to get around with so we couldnt go any further than our two feet would take us one more instance of mrr dependence upon four wheels to tnke us around during the night i even toyed with the idea of hiring a car next morning hut it didnt seem worthwhile as we were leaving about one oclock my friendship with nellie fnl lows a rather unusual pattern we sat side by side
