tagetkn the acton free press acton ontario thursday september 13 105 work of health ujiit explained to ladies some 24 ladies enjoyed a very interesting and instructive talk by mrs jamison of the haiton health unit at the regular monthly meet ing of lamehouse womens institute held in lamehouse memorial hall thursday september 6 mrs jamis on explained the work of the health unit and especially her own work in the county the roll call for the meeting was an article for xhelbazaar to be held in the autumn a letter was receiv ed from dr hitchmanova appealing for help and 10 was voted to assist this very worthy cause mrs frank brown and mrs e sanford were elected to atte a delegates the area convention n guclph september 25 and 26 the bazaar library flower and fruit and garden convenors art reported on the work an hand also the fairs committee mrs n ruddell took charge of the program and called on the dif ferent conveners to give their two- minute reports and mrs sanford for the current events the meeting closed with god save the queen after which all en joyed a social half hour over a cup of tea sandwiches and cake provid ed by the social committee of the month mrs j s noble and mrs e kara the wj of lamehouse believe in starting from the ground up so for some years have sponsored school gardens in the district beginning in the spring with children not yet attending school but who will be starting in september and all class es up to those leaving after obtain ing their entrance mr pargeter 6t acton has been the judge of these gardens for years and the lamehouse ladies are very krateful to mr pargeter for the in terest he has taken and the time he has given to this work this ear he donated a cup to be won three years in succession by one pupil before that pupil can re- fdin the cup this year the pupil ha the largest nu and winner of the cup for the year was pats crawford of r r 3 georgetown she was presented with a book from the w i mrs s gisbv convener of school gardens selects seeds etc in the spring and they are given to any school child who will undertake to make and attend to a small garden plot during the summer mrs gisby and mr pargeter make a tour of these gardens and points are given as mr pargeter judges them this year there were 41 gardens a few were never planted but most of them made a showing of some sort a few were really beautiful to be hold while others show how little interest the pupil had in the work saturday september 8 the children gathered the best from these gardens and had a display in lamehouse memorial hall tocalnbvs hunting
