was titled controlling the greenhouse environment dr cotter stressed that many dis eases of greenhouse vegetables can be controlled by providing a proper greenhouse environ ment the most important factor according to dr cotter is the movement of air stagnant air in a greenhouse is ideal for growth of many fungal diseas es air should be kept moving in ah parts of the greenhouse this is accomplished by using fans which are installed in such a way that this constant and complete air movement is maintained dr cotter stressed also the importance of relative humid ity humidity near the 100 per cent level is best for promoting diseases this is generally the level in most greenhouses un less control measures are tak en growers must ventilate even when temperatures are cool to reduce humidity cool air brought into the greenhouse will be much dryer when warmed when temperatures outside are cooler than inside and condensation forms on the glass or plastic there is a low ering of the humidity this may not seem possible but it is true since this moisture that is condensing is coming out of all of these devices fans etc should be automatic dr cotter maintains using ther mostats and time clocks the grower can have uniform re sults with a minimum of labor to the voters of acton my sincere thanks for your assistance and support at election time merry christmas and happy new year brendan aherne how many local growers have disease problems that can be blamed on a poor environ ment give these ideas some thought now every charitable org anization which wants to con tinue issuing receipts allowable for income tax deduction must register with and be ap proved by and receive a reg istration number from the tax ation division in making ap plication each organization must submit a
