day in less than three hours and adjourned to inspect the new fire truck which arrived from quebec with fire chief mick holmes at the wheel at 940 pjm the sparkling new truck a s2199s expenditure 8100 of which is covered by grants through the emergency meas ures organization also has a twoway radio installed for an additional 715 the town now has two well equipped fire trucks and a rural truck is also installed in the fire hall a letter was received from esquesing council inviting a delegation from acton council to meet with them on monday march 20 at 8 pm for the pur pose of discussing the town dump and its possible reloca tion number two committee wlh attend the meeting in an effort to work out some solu tion for the rapidly unusable dump below glenlea subdivis ion councillor g w mckenzie said he made a personal poll of people in the glenlea sub division and he didnt find one person in favor of keeping the dump in its present location he was questioned by council lor tyler about the location of those polled but felt it wasnt necessary to produce this mayor duby said he hoped the joint meeting with esques ing would produce some re sults at least people will see we are trying to do something about this he stated with councillor charlie per ry in the chair council spent most of the meeting in commit tee of the whole main discus sions were on centennial cele brations in acton a brief to be submitted to county council re garding a proposed road from the second to the third line and ing a question whether any- thing- was being done for school children in centennial year mayor duby told council the centennial committee had done its job chairman r r parker was still working with it and would be willing to cooperate with any individual or organ ization needing the commit tees help he said the com mittee decided to concentrate on the fall fair as the major project reeve bert hinton felt how ever there was a lack of co ordination between the differ ent bodies he felt mr parker should be advised these senti ments were abroad and even the fall fair program was un clear perhaps he said the program committee should start out fresh mr hinton said his extreme concern was with the organizations they detachment reports charges convictions from march 5 to 11 officers of acton detachment worked a total of 240 hours and patrol led 765 miles this weeks reg ular to patients committee was given there were 2300 dressings supplied to make 150 dressings requir ed three volunteers for two hours mrs w dumarch is convener for dressings in transporting patients for treatment 2400 miles were covered each trip averages about three hours time for the volunteer driver drugs and housekeeping ser vices were also supplied for needy patients being ren discussion subject of a county wel fare administrator was intro duced but members noted ac ton clerkmanager jack mcgea- chie who was absent through illness would be able to offer more detailed information at a continued at guelph and georgetown acton ought have to seek accommo dation in milton for pupils re quiring training not offered in acton the discussion wore on to a general revie o t cost o education at the municipal lev el and mayor oufcy suggested a per cartage on income tax for education would be more equitable than continuing the burden on property which af fects many on fixed incomes milton i told the meeting the town had ap proved me in the cen tral ontario ftcgionai develop ment council and mayor duby expressed bis pleasure
