compete for cash prizes pays a larger entrv fee this is set up in such a manner so that a high score is not necessary to get in on the cash awards the competition begins at 12 oclock the second event is the an nual competition with the north halton sportsmens as sociation last year the milton club won the trophy and this year the maple rock boys will be out for revenge the first half of the shootoff takes place at the north halton clubhouse on june 18 spectators are welcome to attend both the above competi tions the best scores this week at maple rock shooting range were gord clow with see curling club operating at ayr ayr a village of 700 people has a beautiful new curling club and on sunday a busload of acton curlers travelled there to inspect the facilities al though the curling club has been in existence 50 years the private building was just com pleted in december and since then membership has increas ed steadily reaching 200 acton curlers who have been considering for years the pos sibility of separate curling fac ilities were interested to see how the club cut costs lady members for instance have been doing all the cleaning acton minor baseball association improved both on and off k ice by the ref erees popular choice for this coveted award was jeff goy and he recevied it from ref ereeinchief murray harrison head table guests for the ga la affair were his worship the mayor gord james represent ing the legion minor sports president bob louttet and his executive composed of bill buchanan ivan kilby ted pope and charlie thomson as well as head referee murray harrison all spoke briefly congratu lating the boys on another fine year of hockey donations were received from lovell bros red and white acton dairy iga do minion hotel hotchen bakery and royal dairy stores and acknowledged by legion minor hockey officials they also thanked all the ladies who helped make the banquet a success top scorers in their respective leagues at saturdays legion town league banquet were peter morrison left graham fraser and john scoyne who were presented with individual trophies staff photo seaforth could wrap up third straight int title seaforth beavers were well oh their way to their third straight oha int b hockey title when they defeated ux- bridge black hawks 103 sat urday in seaforth the victory gave the beavers a 21 edge on the final series but uxbridge tied the series again at 22 with a 64 win monday uxbridge took the opener 6- 5 on their home ice but the beavers got back in the series with a win at home on wed nesday after eliminating dur ham huskiesin four straight if the seaforth rhib takes the tithe it will be the first time it has gone to the same team three years in a row the teams which have given the beavers their closest bat
