ville and improvements to ex isting parks at eden mills and campbellville will be offic ially opened and dedicated this sunday afternoon at the con clusion of the townships cen tennial celebrations ceremonies are scheduled at campbellville and eden mills parks at 230 pm and at brookvule a church service fea turing the salvation army band choirs local scout and guide groups and a picnic be gins at 3 pm sunday the three parks are spaced through the township so that every ratepayer should be close enough to obtain some benefit from at least one points out township clerk j c mclntyrc eden mills park serves the top end of the township campbell ville is already well patronized by the residents of the south ern end and brookville is geo- grahically in the centre of the township the entire cost of the three projects was 7200 the fed eral and provincial govern ments through the centennial commission each donated 2- 394 which is based on a si per capita grant the township contributed 2400 about hajf the total cost 36000 was spent at the brookville park the property had been purchased by the township five years ago as a site for the new administration building and a possible park area beside it starting with a bare farm field the township levelled graded and seeded the site put in a parking area and fencing and erected a baseball backstop the local ball clubs are providing bleachers three childrens ball teams have been using the park regularly since t was established the remaining two parks were already established and expenditures on each were 1- 800 at campbellville new base ball bleachers and playground equipment including teeter tot ters monkev bars swings and slides were added at the west end of the ball park behind the campbellville school washrooms water facilities shrubs and other improve ments were added at the exist ing eden mills park the eden mth park al though it lies in nassagaweya township sits on the township boundary and was actually owned by the neighboring township of eramosa until this year nassagaweya town ship aquired ownership to the ute and made the improve ments mr mclntyre points out that community centre boards will be responsible for the opera tion of the three parks one is already established for the campbellville park and two more will set up to administer brookville and eden mills parks future maintenance of the parks will be carried out by the township with funds from the general tax rates cairns will be unveiled onr sunday at alf three parks the one at eden mills will be a special fieldstone cairn con structed by local craftsman wilk wilson with expenses paid by the eden mills and dis trict community club the cairns at campbellville and brookville will be large chunks of local granite stone each of the cairns will have a plaque purchased through the centen nial commission the other centennial celebra tions in nassagaweya will be held friday evening june 23 at 8 pm and saturday afternoon june 24 at 1 pm at mohawk raceway the fridav night program includes a hootenany with gogo dancers old tyme and modem dancing to two or chestras and the selection of miss nassagaweya centennial queen from among several contestants the townships special giant birthday cake will also be on display and a cake- cutting ceremony will be held saturdays program includes a parade of floats and bands ethnic dancers an antique show awards to school child ren a variety show and fire works all programs are open to the public and officials in charge are hoping for a good turnout admission to fridays pro gram is 1 per person and sat urdays admission is 2 per car the eden mius community bail park has been improved through nassagaweya town ships centennial program which included ad- ditional equipment here and at campbellville and a new ball park in brookville the town ships centennial funds provided 1800 worth of improvements at eden mills including wash rooms water facilities and shrubs staff photo
