of a mink farm being established on the lot behind their homes representatives mrs anderson ana mr maumby approached council for a bylaw to keep them out mr maumby argued that the lot in question was too small for that type of business and the smell from the animals would probably make life miserable for the residents already tliere lie admitted he did not know if the deal was final yet council agreed that the problem could be included under an old bylaw already in the books which allows them the right to prohibit or abate public nuisances cetttkm awrfgit continued from pta one affected by the mill rate subsidy the chairman refused to consider this since it was not possible legally director singliton replied to the comment in administrative staff was defend ng the budget he stressed the ih ms were put in at a defensible level were not here tonight i say we cant defend it now if you tell us to cut 10000000 well do it but the board has lo bear the result of its action for unpaid debentures or broken contracts trustee r e goodin suggested people are disturbed and frustrated by the cost of education many have given up in despair he suggested he called for a reestabluhment of confidence in education and a holding of the budget lute trustee w j priestner suggested tlie boards budget as not unreasonable he noted the salaries were negotiated by the trustees not the administration noting there was over 100 years of trustee experience at the board table and the board had been operating as a unit for only four months trustee w lawson suggested there would be improvement in the whole field of education and he had every confidence the board would make this possible trustee lawson also noted he had suggested earlier tlie press in the north had not projected the results of the education levy on the taxpayer he stressed this had been done in the acton and milton papers however j trustee l d palmer maintained he would have to support those ratepayers in his wara by opposing confirmation of the budget it was suggested by trustee ronton board members had to support ratepayers lit two ways in providing quality education at the lowest possible price on a recorded vote the budget was confirmed with trustees palmer price and goodin opposing amendment no 4 to the official plan was recommended by planning board lo council for passing thursday night the amendment relaxed to a degree some of the restrictions imposed on nonconforming uses presently in effect it also rezonet the property owned by dills printing and publishing on willow and alice sis into an industrial category the original toning proposed for the properly was 01 conservation and some residential if the amendment it passed by council and accepted by die department in toronto the lonlngon the property would be completely industrial solicitor c f lralherland acting as an agent for tlie toronto solicitors of jack ridley told planning board he would advise mr ridleys lawyers they will have until the next council meeting to submit written objections to the amendment mr ridley objected on the grounds that the reroning granted on the dills property was what hid been requested at the municipal board hearing in 1967 at the same heanng he had objected to the change in zoning on hit property and asked that it be zoned industrial as well he uld that all nutters referred to the o m b hearing had not been included in the amendment mayor duby in speaking on the objection said the planning board was dealing with three separate properties and was trying to get tlie items cleaned up one by one charles klikness representing bevtown holdings liked the planning boards feeling on tlie best use of the property owned by the company at oiurch and maria sts tlie company would presently meet all requirements and could build four three and a i venturer news uniforms by decoration day is the big taiget at the moment a 99c car wash behind the post office this saturday should earn the bosun mystery solved priscilla peahen in love noose tlie peacock mystery has been solved not one but five members of the peacock family escaped from a pen at tlie home of gino civiero r r i acton two of the birds including the peahen which took up lodging behind the home of mr and mrs fred bennett on blmore drive belonged lo a silvercreek man acknowledging that a bird in the hand it worth two in the bush the man from silvercreek brought a beautifully plumed peacock to the bennett home tuesday afternoon to entice the still reluctant peahen nto captivity tethering the male in the bennett garage and assisted by mrs bennett and mrs kevin cpnroy they waited it wasnt long until priscilla peahen walked right into the trap mrs conroy slammed the ptage door and beat a hasty exit trapping priscilla in with peter the rest was a piece of chocolate cake meanwhile there are still two birds missing from the civiero pen there have been reports that one bird is in the warren grove area and another was reported on a farm not far from the civiero home mrs bennett meanwhile is slightly piqued that the attractive peahen has now gone from the woods behind her home and the home of mr and mrs dave muckle the peahen has attracted much attention and been the cause of several neighborly visits the bird accepted handouts gracefully retreating whenever it looked like someone had capture on their mind captivation finally led to captivity half storey apartment buildings on the property he said tlie present building height restrictions were possibly being changed and asked planning boards feeling on iwo buildings of eight or nine storeys to include the same number of suites as in tlie four buildings he suggested tlie property could be better landscaped and would have less lot coverage with tlie taller buildings mayor duby pointed out planning board could not entertain further amendments to the zoning bylaw until present matters before tlie municipal board have been cleared up but suggested planning board and the consultants have been sympathetic and feel a change in height restrictions might be desirable it was suggested to mr kukness that he could peihaps determine how the surrounding home owners would feel about highrise apartment buildings and after the june 1 2 municipal board hearing an amendment could be requested planning consultant denis hood suggested the bevtown holdings could prepare the background information and get it in to planning board for their consideration it was suggested if there were no objections by neighboring home owners an amendment to allow the building could possibly be approved within six weeks after the june 12 hearing joe delaine asked planning board if further thought had been given to changing the van gils property back to residential from an industrial classification chairman bob drinkwaller said that not too much thought had been given the subject because planning board hadnt had the opportunity to discuss it he hoped lo get to it in the near future mr delaine said the june 12 hearing will effectively seal the land in the industrial category and asked for a zoning bylaw map so an objection can be filed ben rachlin who owns an lthaped property fronting on mill and main sts asked if a building permit could be issued he uid he could sell the property if the purchaser could get a building permit the lot is kresently zoned commercial and e suggested a store and apartments could be constructed on the land chairman drinkwaller said he felt parking requirements would be the only problem and suggested an application to the committee of adjustment for relief from parking requirements might be successful mr rachlin said the building would be an asset to the town but it would be impossible to provide offstreet parking
