tito aden proa pre wadnaaday august 27 196v mm 9kvtf 4 quite troi ifmr sjpveed or by dank gibboos this column is not intended as eulogy for the acton tricounty minoc hockey association or the acton legion minor hockey association nor is it intended as e condemnation of either it is written as an appeal to the commonsense of members of both organizations for the bst seven years each of ten organizations has provided nskvor hockey for boy in acton the tricounty association with the fmandai help of several generous donations from local service dubs and businesses has looked after the needs of novice pee wee bantam midget erid juvenile teams praying in the weil organized tricounjy minor hotkey league against tearm from nearby towns like milton georgetown branipton and hespeler the legion association meanwhile has admirably fulfilled the very necessary task of seeing thai boys in the novice pee wee bantam and midget aa poops who either do not have the ability to play tricounty hockey or for one teasod or another do not with to still have the opportunity to play hockey in house league- n last tew years the legion association hat alio formed house league teams for boy in the atom age group tut seven and eight year olds both groups have done a arte job but needless to say they have has their problsms the main problem a we e it i that the two groups have been holding separate registrations at a result the legion house leagues have attracted several boys who actually poises the talent to play more competitive brand of hockey meanwhile the teams representing acton in the tricounty league have been struggling along to eighth and ninth place finishes when they could be finishing higher if they had two or three more players from the house leagues who do have the ability to play tricounty hockey we are not saying that coaches and managers should develop a win at all coil attitude among their players nor are we saying that players who haw a valid teaion for playing house league hockey should be forced to do otherwise all w are saying is that boys who obviously poueu hockey talent in a high degree should be encouraged to develop their talents in league which will afford them better competition at the situation stands now four or five players in each group of the houw leagues at dominating play and probably trilling the chances for development of the weaker players in thou tame isaguet at the same time theyre not helping their own chances for improvement by any means we would like to tee the tricounty association and the legion association hold a joint registration or at least try to work out a program which would group players of the tame ability together and dttcoutaga the unbalanced situation which now exists the purpose of minor hockey it not to recruit boys but to offer them all a fair opportunity to play a situation in which a few boys with superior ability dominate leagues to the detriment of many others could hardly be called fair this comer would be more than happy to hear the comments of parents coaches managers or executive members on this subject anyone interested in playing darts in an industrial dart league this fall
