measures that win as ft tn as pooglble assist in t quantities at canadia bacon being snipped to britain within the next two nxxttbs recently the bacon board received i information that it was of the utmost importance that regular weekly ship ments as provided for in the present agreement be maintained otherwise the british ministry of pood would find difficulty in maintaining a raton elf four ounces per week per person to the peoleof the british isles the measures introduced are an advance of 1 per 100 pounds or 1860 to 10 60 fas caadinan sea board in the price of canadian wilt- ure bacon for export to the united kingdom this is in order to bring toe value of bacon in canada closer to parity with the present price of bogs in the united states the price of 10 60 was effective as from the opening of the live stock markets on wednesday july 23 an order in council also effective wednesday july 23 prohibits qjeex- port of live hogs dressed hogs and other edible pork products excepting l lard to points other than the united kingdom and british possessions the bacon board also ordered a jturther retraction of 25 per cent in the amount of pork products including bam and bacon that may be distri- 1 jmted by exporting packers for can adian consumption under date of may 28 1941 the governor in council approved an amendment to the agreement with re- pect to bacon between the united jct ministry of food and can- ada under which it was agreed that the united kingdom woufck increase the price paid for bacon by 5 shillings p long hundredweight for half ot the contract quantity of 425000000 pounds with che proviso that if the price of united states hogs moved further above a parity of this price the difference would be borne by can ada in accordance with this agreement the bacon board on june 2 1041 was authorised to pay andwldltional 75 cents per 100 pounds tolthe price of 85 shillings being paid bf the united kingdom and on june 24a further in crease of 75 cents or a total of 160 per 100 pounds was made hog prices in the united states have continued to advance sharply in ducing a flow of live hogs and dressed products to the united states thereby jeopardizing the quantities required for export to the united kingdom the united k ministry pood have alsortquested that ship ments of bacon under the present agreement be accelerated so mat if possible the present contract of 425- 000000 pounds of baoon bams and other cuts be completed by about sep tember 15 1941 instead of october 31 1941 the increased rate of shipment necessary to comply with this request win require that every hog marketed in canada during the next two mon ths be available for export to the united kingdom or for distribution in the domestic market on the completion of the present agreement or 425000000 pounds m ba con bams and other cuts on septem ber 15 1941 it is anticipated that the agreement for the following 12 mon ths will call for the delivery by can ada of 600 000000 pounds of bacon ham and other cuts the larger or der will necessitate a substantial in crease in the canadian production ol hogs canadian poultry shipped to several countrubb recently for many years canadian record of performance ropi poultry not only have had a worldwide reputation lor high quality but have served as the foundation stock on which the poultry nocks of several countries have been built the purchase and ship ment or canadian rojp poultry stock covers nearly a quarter of a century but some of the more recent shipments may be cited so satisfactory was a 1937 shipment ol canadian rop poultry stock in building up the foundation flocks ot the british guiana deoartmerit ot agriculture that more birds ere ask ed for and shipped in october 1938 and as a result of further
