camp he was an organist of arcadee continued from page i think of toronto rida clean streets with streetcars and proper slse cars driving on the proper side oi the street and large modern buildings i have seen the pyramids am enclosing a picture of myself with them for backgroundproof snes we go into suez occasionally a dirty little town the canal is wide as atftg river we swam in today and sorneot the boys tried to fish but uk- fish had different ideas i also had a ride on a camel there was an egyptian soldier doing sentry on a camel along the canal we raced j the bank and took pictures of him then he got off and let us get on the camel went down on its knees ind george tried to jump on as you would a horse but the camel wasn uitu to those tactcs at the first touch he jumped up and george eli off and almost rolled into the canal i never laughed so much in my life i believe the camel erijoyed it too finally we both ijad a cr at it and it s quite an experience you feel awfully high up and he sits down or gets up by a sequence 61 alternate ly wanting positions that are most dis concerting two days ago we had a terrible sandstorm a very miserable expert ence the sand is a sort of gritty si t not like the clean sand of our lakes and gets into your eyes and ears and down your throat we wear tropical kit in the day time and blue at night in daytime it is like a hot summer day at home only without any shade trees and at night it gets away down below zero on the desert i ve spent some time in the desert proper and out there the days and nights are pretty terrible there s uuite a cold wind blowing this morn ing feels ilk- september on lake huron by noon it will be scorching hot we sleep with mosquito netting iround our beds now i dldn t one night and got rather badly bitten i always was a target for mosquitoes remember that summer at hillsboro sid n se all wear long white night kouns and either turbans or red flow tr iot hats with tassels some of them ire lairi clean but the general run are incredibly filthy and live n tl e i t est urro indings don t i wish i could tell jou about he lungs wee ben doing we been he ping to make headline nes for tht pa t fl mon tlis qui e i while bitk btfore i came here lid a raid on naples i was temp ed to p a bomb on vesuvius but thought t miiiht start er lpting and ik m with t it smoulders all the inn i played tht organ in all sans cathedral in cairo the other day n stle at present 1 have five hun ored flying hours and twentyseven raids to my credit so i m kind of teran gold coast too later letters dated may te 1 of his sojourn on the gold coast the inot humid climate in the world where natives are kindly and clean and where fresh fruit is excellent and abundant in the native village was native church that looks sur prisingl like the one in arcadee red brick and all and here the story of an organist of arcadee should end but it doesn t it goes on and on into gods eter nl y where all things are plain and understood for on the 25th of july his mother he was the only son of his mother and she a widow was notified by the british war office that her son had died on the field it is good to think that he player the organ in cairo cathedral some of us will always associate that music with what he made here in arcadee and it is good also to think of that gold coast native church that looked so surprisingly like the one in area dee to one sojourner at least the gold coast will be very near to area dee henceforth and forever the tomb of heroes is the universe says the poet and though he would be he lost in the world to think so our or ganlst of arcadee has given our quiet little town living identity with the unl verse by his brave life and fearless death god comfort his mother and wloow and sisters ballinafad the regular meeting of the mission band was held in the church on thursday afternoon august 7th ih the absence of mrs klskiwood the superintendent miss b hilts had charge master
