branches and auxiliaries in can ada is calling to the people of the dominion that they should observe more than ever in solemn remembrance ehe sjrabohan which has become an integral part of remembrance day observances and asks that every man woman and child wear a poppy on november 11th in memory of those who laid down their lives in the great war and of troee men and women who have made uie supreme sacrifice in the present conflict this appeal is wot made on behalf of tne legion or of its members but on behalf of all exservice men who are in need the collection and administration or the poppy fund has been entrusted to the canadian legion this however does not mean that the poppy fund is part of the funds of the legion it is kept entirely separate and is not even treated as a part of the relief fund it la rather considered as a trust fund which the legion administers for the benefit of all exservlce men in granting relief members of the legion receive no preference but all exservlce men stand on an equal footing any man who has served and who is in need has a claim on this fund the popples and wreaths which you will be asked to buy are made by an organisation of disabled er- servlce men these men are absolutely incapable of earning a living in any other way and but for this industry would be a charge on the public funds if poppy day did nothing but keep these men self supporting and self respecting citizens it would still be worthwhile the organization of poppy day the sales of wreaths and popples the handling of monies collected the investigation and relief of all ap plicants are done by voluntary w no man or woman connected in any way with this receives one cent as wages salary bonus commission or allowance for expenses all monies collected are placed in a special account which is controlled by a board of trustees of this branch every expenditure made is approved and every account checked by the board every applicant for relief is investigated carefully but sympathetically relief may take ue form of food ckrthing fuel rent or medical assist ance it la practically never issued in cash should any of our friends desire further information on any point in connection with poppy fund activities our branch secretary wfll be glad to supply it the canadian legon is grateful for the hearty support they have always received from the general pubuo to make the lot of the distressed exservlce man easier and it is our hope that there will be no partial or permanent blackout for them otve and gflve preely cousens chairman f j
