before christmas geonge who was eighteen years of age was serving with the irish regiment of canada in italy the sympathy of the community is extended to the la- milytn their sad loss pte latimer was born and educat ed in georgetown he enlisted here in april 1942 with the lome scots and trained at georgetown niagara- onthelake brantford and nanalmo bc he went overseas in june 1043 and while in england was transferred to the irish regiment of canada oeorge was sent to italy last october he had been in battle almost continu ously since the capture of rome his father who is chief of the georgetown fire brigade is a veter an of the last war having served three years a brother sergeantgunner ronald latimer of prince edward island is at present home on leave another brother douglas is attend ing georgetown high school and his only sister joan is in public school mrs hannah elisabeth burt wife archdeacon william burt rector of st pauls church of england port erie died suddenly on saturday de cember 30th at the rectory mrs burt is remembered by many friends in georgetown where archdeacon burt was rector of st georges from 1916 to 1920 surviving besides her husband are three daughters lieut jean burt at tached to a canadian hospital unit in italy lieut patricia burt in charge of a canadian hospital in britain and mrs dr william reid of port erie mrs burt had taken a prominent part in church and patriotic work in fort erie and was a past president of st pauls womens guild the funeral was held yesterday with services from the church and interment in the adjoining churchyard pte reg blair pays supreme sacrifice in italy the sad news was received last fri day by his wife and parents in town that another fine young georgetown soldier had paid the supreme sacrifice in italy pie reg blair was one of the first georgetown men to don uni form erjaatlng in september 1939 shortly after the outbreak of war he trained in winnipeg and went over seas in december of that year with the princess pajs he had been serv ing in italy for the past year and a half in england he met and married the former nancy white of salt deans sussex who with their baby son james reginald came to georgetown last october to make her home with the blairs news of the casualty came at a time when the family was happy in the thought that beg would soon be home on one of the overseas leaves granted to canadians who had five years service overseas t o their credit and it was a distinct shock to everyone when word of his death was received pte blair was born in georgetown in 1924 and would have celebrated his 31 st birthday in march he was prominent in juvenile hockey in the town and played on the team which won the midget championship against copper cliff surviving
