warden which were as ofuows dr o h heslop nominated by c hillmer and n oraig c v hillmer nominated by j m mcdonald and k r macdonald reeve hillmer thanked the spon sors for bis nomination but asked that his name be withdrawn in favor of dr heslop mr craig moved that nominations be closed dr heslop was therefore unanimously elected warden of the county for the year 1945 the warden elect made his declar ation of office before his honor judge munro who congratulated him upon the high honor conferred upon him mrs pettlt then oame forward with the request that the warden of the county be given a gown to wear while conducting the sessions of the council since mrs pettit was pre pared with gown in hand no protests were made and dr heslop took the chair the first warden in halton to wear a gown of office the warden in a brief address thanked the members of the council txot his election to office and business then got underway minutes were read following which the reeves of the various municipali ties formed a committee to appoint the standing committees for 1945 the striking committee then sub mitted their report and it was moved by smith seconded by wnlttaker that the council were scheduled to meet the nor- valgeorgetown combines in their first clash of the season however we have since learned that the guelph team have dropped out of the league after their 191 trimming on home ice at the hands of victory aircraft it is unlike an oha team to fall to put in an appearance this way with out some notification beforehand and they should be severely reprimanded by the oka heads this leaves just the two teams hi the grouping and the combines and vic tory aircraft will complete their schedule as at first drawn up there are still two games to be played one on monday night ngxt jan 29th aq the other on feb 10th following these games the teams will enter a beat twooutrof three playoff series to decide the group winner both teams will be bolstered up some what before the playoffs and malton seem quite confident of going places in the 0ha this of course will de pend on what material will be avail- combine lose again j to victory aircraft wide open game with plenty ef goals final score 118 the local combines norval and georgetown suffered another defeat at the hands of victory aircraft malton on monday rrfgh when the vlsltore triumphed by a 11 9 score it was a wide open affair with both teams trying hard for goals and little defensive work in evidence mal ton played well together but the combines took advantage of the breaks bo keep the score in fairly close range the combines scored the first goal of the game in its early stages but by the end of the second period malton had made the score 73 in the third period the combines scored six times malton four
