the armed might of italy germany and japan has been crushed pray god forever now the long road back begins for the world the road which is littered with millions of bodies of friend and foe of those come and the peace which we have so long looked for is it jo be a true peace which will last past our lifetime and into future gener ations or is it to be ephemeral and lead to another war twenty or thirty years hence which may wipe man kind from the earth world war i brought a foretaste of future war with its tanks and aeroplanes world war ii has made full use of these and in its closing stages has introduced the atomic bombr a manmade creation which makes use of the energy of the universe to destroy never before have the worlds statesmen and citizens been entrusted with such terrible knowledge which must be controlled and safeguarded men like hitler have shown that they are capable of pulling a whole nation into the depths in their insaniy perhaps in some future day there may be men even more evil who will dream of destroying a whole world it is against such possibilities that we as individuals and nations must unceasingly struggle must keep an ever- watchful eye we must forget our private national and international greed and selfishness for above all things it is selfishness which can lead to war if we are to rebuild this shattered old world into one which can fully enjoy the blessings of peace make use of atomic energy of aeroplanes radio machinery and manpower for constructive not destructive pur poses we must make ourselves worthy of these bless ings by trying harder to see each others viewpoints to have a little more give and a little less take in our spiritual makeup and to chose our leaders wisely and demand their every energy for world peace v does georgetown want sewers in a month or two the ratepayers of georgetown will be asked by council to vote on an important ques tion whether a sewage system will be installed or whether we shall continue in the old way of cesspools and septic tanks in the next few weeks we hope to write a series of editorials summarizing the situation ae we gee it and giving relevant data contained in the report of an engineering firm hired last spring to make an estimate of the cost we do sincerely hope that every ratepayer who lias an idea ei against the-installation-will- lie meeting before voting day wellinformed about all the details of the plan and ready to offer constructive criticism on changes and improvements if we a4f make this effort we shall then have made a rational decision by voting
